About the DNPCB

 About DNPCB
The Dermatology Nurse Practitioner Certification Board (DNPCB) exists to support and elevate dermatology nurse practitioners through nationally recognized certification, professional standards, and ongoing competency expectations. We believe that specialized dermatology nursing practice improves patient outcomes, strengthens clinical confidence, and advances the profession.

Our Purpose
Dermatology nurse practitioners play a critical role in delivering safe, effective, evidence-based dermatologic care. DNPCB ensures that those practicing in this specialty have the knowledge, clinical judgment, and skills required to provide exceptional care to patients across diverse settings.

Through certification, DNPCB formally recognizes nurse practitioners who demonstrate advanced competency in dermatology practice.

Our Mission
To promote excellence in dermatology nurse practitioner practice by establishing and maintaining a rigorous, credible, and nationally recognized certification process that validates specialty knowledge, expertise, and ongoing professional competence.

Our Commitment
DNPCB supports the professional growth of dermatology nurse practitioners by valuing:
  • High clinical standards and professional integrity
  • Evidence-based education and lifelong learning
  • Competency validation through certification and recertification
Continuing Competence
DNPCB follows the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification (ABSNC) definition of continuing competence:
Continuing competence is the ongoing commitment of a registered nurse to integrate and apply the knowledge, skills, judgment, attitudes, values, and beliefs required to practice safely, effectively, and ethically in their designated specialty, role, population, or practice setting.
This standard guides our recertification structure to ensure nurse practitioners maintain clinical relevance and professional excellence over time.

Equity, Inclusion & Non-Discrimination
DNPCB is committed to providing an inclusive, respectful, and equitable environment. We do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, nationality, marital status, veteran status, or any legally protected characteristic.

This commitment applies to all areas of our work, including certification processes, volunteer engagement, policies, staffing, and service delivery.
